Hey all you wonderful people! It’s that time again; a blog from your counsellor! You get the opportunity to have a look into our lives and hopefully learn a thing or two from it. And boy o boy has my life been busy. Chunky Monkey’s year has been exciting...

I used the opportunity of taking a year off after high school. This consists of travelling, working, applying for school, and doing cool events for Jesus! I have gone to Calgary for a friends wedding, gone on a trip to a First Nations Reserve, been accepted to college, and planned both a New Years event and hockey tournament in my local community/church. To put it simple, I have been very busy. The one thing I have learned from this busyness is how to better understand myself!
Let me explain. This year I have been very focused on telling other people about what I am excited about! Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit, life. This leads me to planning activities, running bible studies, and reaching out to people. Which is fun and I love it but… sometimes I get tired. Like after a hockey game, a day of school, piano lessons, or just a full day of play! When I get tired I often start to feel sad, or get lazy. My emotions tell me that I need to give up whatever I am doing and just feel sad, tired, lazy, bored, confused, exhausted, or whatever emotion I am feeling that day. This had led me into trouble and can distract me from God.
I know some people feel the same way. Your emotions can tell you how to feel. This is good until they start to make you feel bad about yourself, or proud about yourself. Depression, pride, boredom, and laziness are all things that come from how you feel.

God wants you to keep working for Him.
Now my point!
What I have learned this year is that even if you feel bad, God’s truth says otherwise! If you are depressed remember what the bible says about joy in Jesus! If you are proud remember what the bible says about humility! If you are feeling lazy read Romans 12:1-2 and know that God wants you to keep working for Him!
Romans 12:1-2
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
I encourage you in this month to listen more to the truth God teaches then the bad feelings your emotions can produce!
Love you all, and remember God’s truth is what matters most!
